There's going to be food pouring in with relief efforts

The people don't know that. The have no radios, cell phone coverage or CNN up thier butts with minute to minute information. They only know that they are scared and desperate right now.

Also, if they can't get people OUT, they can't get food IN unless it is air dropped as they do in 3rd world countries. Gee, won't that be fun.

Those with nefarious reasons for their looting are absolutely in the wrong. Those doing it for their perceived survival get a pass on this one.

Looting is wrong, and I know people have non-survival motives for looting, but thinking about it, I wonder if I wouldn't loot at this point for necessities. If I were stranded and didn't know when the rescue was coming, I might be tempted to loot food and water. Seeing that might supplies are limited, I think I might loot for water and food and batteries to increase my chances of survival. The food is limited in the disaster area and you just don't know when help will arrive.

Of course you would take what you need to survive, despite the fact that shallow minded fools are sitting at home, dry, clean, well fed, and not thirsty, in front of their computers, typing irrelevant judgements about you.

THat is why i saw the majortiy of people stealing cd players, tvs, and trying on shoes and clothes????

I'm sorry, but the second you take something other than a necessity... you should be shot.

Also, these people are breaking the law just BEING THERE. It is illegal to remain in those areas. If they don't leave they should be forced. If it comes to it, begin tazzing people and forcefully removing them.
Its just sheer rediculousness.

I'm a shallow mindedfool because I had the forsight to evacuate and am now angered by the looters? Not only did I evacuate but I also stocked up on water and food as well. These people have all been made aware for years that provisions should be made for hurricanes.

Could it be quite the opposite? The people who are "dry, clean, well fed,and not thirsty, in front of their computers," WITH NO PROPERTY AT STAKE are typing irrelavent judgements about those of us who stand to be victimized a second time by looters?

You should also check the thread about the looters in a grocery store shooting a policeman in the back of the head!

I had been in social work for many years and many (not all) who could not afford money for food seemed to be able to have a cell phone, beer and cigarettes. Just an observation. And while rumors are certainly rampant - I can't believe no one left in NO doesn't have a battery powered radio or tv.

Mayor Nagin stated that the sandbagging did not work and Jefferson and Orleans will experience 12-15 feet of water. The water is rising again  .

Shep Smith just said that he heard on Emergency Radio that the sandbagging was largely successful and that the water was no longer rising....

I dont know how accurate this is, but it seems to conflict with the other post regarding the mayor....

I hope it worked, but I'm not optimistic. Here in FL authorities told us to forget about sandbagging to hold back flood waters of any quantity, that it doesn't do anything to help. Maybe they were wrong and it does work.

I just hope they can hold back the rest of the water, no matter what it takes.

WWLTV:

ALL RESIDENTS ON THE EAST BANK OF ORLEANS AND JEFFERSON REMAINING IN THE METRO AREA ARE BEING TOLD TO EVACUATE AS EFFORTS TO SANDBAG THE LEVEE BREAK HAVE ENDED. THE PUMPS IN THAT AREA ARE EXPECTED TO FAIL SOON AND 12-15 FEET OF WATER ARE EXPECTED IN THE ENTIRE EAST BANK.

 Shepp really did say that the waters were no longer rising five minutes ago based on what he heard on emergency radio... I guess he was wrong.... That's horrible - I thought there was some good news for about five minutes

What a cool Mod. Thanks for being firm but not hard-core and whipping out the "Predator" armor and bladed implements at the drop of a hat, or uh, minor flame-out.

Warning to members, though: Never mistake someone's good-nature or kindness for WEAKNESS. Big mistake.
:grrr: (the predator-mod) shriing... (sound of blade-claw extending)

The guy is a jerk, and he's losing all crediability as a reporter. He's just their to get big ratings for his afternoon and evening shows he hosts. Fox News would do themselves some good if they pulled him out there now.

I am a fan of FoxNews and was impressed on Sunday with the intelligent way Shepp spoke about the oncoming hurricane... he knew the scenario well, with the Gulf pouring into Ponchatrain, which would the pour into the city, etc.

But for the past two days, he has done pretty badly.

Like I said, I am a fan of Fox News and don't particularly like CNN, but I think CNN's coverage over the last two days has been far superior.
