FINALLY, AFTER 120 HRS (5 Days), POWER IS BACK!

#1 Postby HURAKAN » Tue Aug 30, 2005 8:53 pm

During the first gusty winds of Hurricane Katrina I lost electricity around 7 PM on Thursday. Now, 120 hours later power is back! I have been lurking around the forum using my laptop in my grandparent's house. They had electricity 2 days later after the storm, and I had to use dial-up. This was my first real hurricane experience, and after it, I still love to track them but if they stay away!!! My house got some damage from neighbors' trees, but nothing considerable.

After Katrina, I learned to fear even tropical storms, and to get prepare every time my area is under a warning. Not to believe that a system will go north of me even that I'm part of a warning area.

BEST PART: I experienced a hurricane close and personal, so close that I was in the eye. My barometer measured 985.3 MB when the eye was over my neighborhood.

WORSE PART: I lost electricity for 5 days, and sleeping without it brough me memories from Cuba. Also, KATRINA turned out to be a monster of catastrophic proportions.

Welcome Back! Five Days after from a "weak" Cat1. Electricity may not exist in parts of the GOM for weeks or even months.

It's great to hear that you're back and that your power is on! I know how it feels to lose power for an extended period of time, although not during the summer after a hurricane. Most of my powerless times have occurred after an icestorm takes out powerlines. BRRRR. Anyway, great to have you back!

I went from worst to first this time around. After Ivan, my neighborhood was one of the last to see the lights come back on. Today, while working on my fence, suddenly security alarms and air conditioners clicking on. I took the rest of the afternoon off and celebrated. Yippee yiah yeah!

I've still got a tree on my workshop and a checkboard roof, but the hard part's over.

I think hicksta referred to Katrina's second landfall on the Gulf coast in southeast Louisiana. He also referred to the conditions most areas around where Katrina hit on the Gulf coast experienced.

any of y'all feel like "back to normal" is somehow NOT normal?

I know I did, after all 3 'canes last year.

Regardless,
Welcome back to "normal" :D
