My friend Grace and her two children evacuated from Biloxi just hours before the Hurricane. They almost didn't make it because she was trying to get her husband to leave. He refused. I didn't even ask why, the family is too much of a wreck. She is currently safe and holed up with the kids a bit north in Alabama. But so far she has had no information about her husband. She's been in contact with every authority, but they just don't have any information.
Her home was not far from the casinos and often had water come up to the porch even during a hard rain. It has likely been totally destroyed, along with everything they own. Also her son's girlfriend was left behind as well because her family wouldn't leave either.
She says she wants to try to go back and everyone keeps telling her that she can't. They won't let anyone back there now. But she's totally in shock and it is hard to get through to her.
Please keep them, along with everyone else affected by this terrible tragedy, in your thoughts.

Thank you for your positive thoughts!
He has been found and is okay! Thankfully. Apparently their house was a tiny oasis and survived the storm. There was flooding, but the house was just high enough to miss the storm surge that was so deadly in Biloxi. The house is damaged, with a tree laying on part of it, but mostly intact. Of course, now he has no way out - and his family no way back in - but all are alive and for that we are terribly grateful! Luckily one of his neighbors whose house survived in better shape has a generator and for now they are able to keep their food - though clean water is a problem. They haven't found any emergency services people providing water or ice - and they won't loot - and are afraid of the looters, so they are just staying holed up in the neighbor's house for now.
