#24 Postby micktooth » Tue Aug 30, 2005 5:42 pm

Hi everyone, just a quick update. My family and I evacuated to Jackson, MS , rode out Katrina there. No power in hotel. Today, we drove to my family's house in Ft. Worth, TX. I don't know when I'll be back at work, I''m a dentist, or when my kids will be back at schooll. I just wanted to thank everyone for all the info leading up to this life changing event.
BTw, I am from River Ridge, LA a suburb of NO.

Can anyone tell me about Damage in Diamondhead, Mississippi & Damage in Picayune, MS.

My wife has family in Diamondhead who evacuated to Picayune. There has been no contact since the storm passed them.

Thanks in advance.

I have family in Gulfport. There's a lot of info on the coast line but I need to know about a mile in from the coast what the damage was around Mt. Bass. Thanks for any info.

I talked to my friends in Houma a little bit ago. They're fine and their homes are all OK. Their electricity came back on while I was talking to them. They had evacuated to Arkansas and just returned home today.

I hope others receive good news like I did.

Oh yes, they said that a friend (or family memeber) of theirs had loaded their boat and gone to NO to try and help with the rescue. The minute they stopped their truck was overtaken and all the supplies and equipment they had carried with them was stolen......they returned home. Very sad.

I have a friend who's mother was in Louisiana Heart Hospital in Lacombe. Does anyone know if it has been evacuated or what is the status at that hospital? Any information on Picayune also would be appreciated.

(just NE of airport, 4 miles from shore, next to large canal) She spoke to him Saturday morning and he intended to stay! He has no cell phone and we know of no other close contacts there. She is almost ready to try to drive up there to look for him. If we do not hear from him in a day or so, we just might do it.

I'm trying to determine how badly his area of town was hit: I cannot tell from video and reports how far in from the coastline Gulfport was flooded. One mentioned almost everything from the railroad tracks south to the shore was decimated. I believe he is north of tracks, but south of I-10.

If I contact Red Cross, do you think they could at least tell me what shelter he might have gone to?( hoping he did decide to go!!) Any other point of contact to suggest?

Update: Appeared on the "Alive" list on Foxnews on Sept. 1. Finally spoke with him on Sunday. I had address wrong. He was in Bay St Louis! Apartment is gone, but he is well and at shelter. Kari left yesterday to pick him up.
