Gas prices here SKYROCKETED today

#1 Postby Josephine96 » Wed Aug 31, 2005 8:50 pm

Between the time I went to work this morning and the time I got home.. Prices skyrocketed for gas..

Average prices for gas this morning $2.59-$2.69-$2.79

On the way home: $2.90-$3.00-$3.10

Katrina is gonna start hurting us even more too I suppose..

I just have 1 question..

Why exactly were there such long lines at the pumps..? Is there a shortage..? Is Florida being threatened by a storm I don't know about..? What's going on..?

I think it may be that there may be a shortage soon but more importantly, people are trying to get the $3/gal gas prices before they go up further. with $6/gal gas prices in Atlanta, I'm afraid that may become the norm elsewhere.

I'm in rural North Central Florida. Ours went from $2.67 to $2.95.
I topped off my tank, because I found one station still @ $2.67. If everyone did that, it would account for the long lines.

Has anyone really stopped to think that if gas is $5/gal., 20 gallons would be $100?????
I was so happy last year when we bought a generator. Now, I realize that if we lose power, I won't be able to put gas in the generator.

I think we all need to look into the latest model by Huffy...... I'm about to dust off my bike! And I'm a major klutz on one....

Gas prices went up over $3 a gallon for regular here in Cincinnati.

Well I am not sure about a huffy as they make the seats so tiny anymore, not that my butt is fat,but it is uncomfortable. But I am considering a moped and will put hubbie on one too. Imagine him riding one to the golf course, as he is a asst pro. HAHAHA

Long story I won't get into. But I just got a generator from our home depot for a guy in Bay St. Louis. It will get to him tomorrow. I was going to send gas but every gas station I passed here in Pensacola was completely out. I am sure that must be some somewhere. But Ididn't see any between Home Depot and my house.

He made it to Mobile but no generators in Mobile. Maybe he will have some luck over there.

$5.87 a gallon for regular...

Places are running out... there's mass panic, long lines like I've never seen before, it's insane.

who is setting the prices? the station owners by themselves or the gas companies. I mean its not like all these stations got refilled today and the price for that tanker full cost more and therefore passing it off to the cunsumer, no there still using the same gas that was priced at $2.50 yesterday. I don't get it. We have a small Exxon station (1pump, 2 sides), and they are the lowest at $2.59 gallon they didn't change there prices yet, the Wawa which is usually the lowest around here is at $2.75.

The cheapest gas in my town went up 20 cents today to$2.74 a gallon. I can believe $3 a gallon before too long.

I just heard that coast guard said 20 oil rigs are missing :(

This is probably a ripple effect of the storm. It will effect everyone, but currently here in central NJ gas is $3.09 per gallon.
