Military Full-Scale Response to Hurricane Relief Effort

#1 Postby soonertwister » Wed Aug 31, 2005 9:53 pm

1st US Army Commander Lt. General Russel Honore is heading Joint Task Force (JTF) Katrina in the effort to save lives and alleviate the suffering of the victims of this hurricane. Their help is on the way.

For those not up on military rank, General Honore is a three-star general.

Also for those not up on modern military terminology, a joint task force generally contains units from all branches of military service, and is the current state-of-the-art major crisis response unit in the world.

I'm not sure what the quote marks are for, but I usually can discern why they are used.

A JTF is a massive response to a vital threat. That is what they were designed to be. You cannot put together a JTF in one day or two.

Have you noticed the giant military transport copters flying in and out of the Superdome area all day? Those were coming in, by my estimate, at maybe one every five or ten minutes.

That's the function of JTF, and the response was within 12 hours of the formation of the JTF. By my standards, that is exceedingly good.
