Alabama, Mississippi smaller town damage info needed

#1 Postby cvfmom » Wed Aug 31, 2005 10:35 pm

There are many of us in Eastern NC that were victims of Hurricane Floyd and we were receipents of many random acts of kindness. We are trying to put together a box truck load of water, hand cleaner, nabs just some basic neccessities and take it to some areas, maybe out of the way, maybe forgotten by the media. We hope to pull this off over the next day and leave out on Friday and be back on Monday.

Hopefully some of the people in this great forum know some forgotten area, maybe you have family there, maybe you read about an area whatever, please let us know either on this forum or by email at cvfmom@aol.com.

This will be our way of showing our support to fellow hurricane survivors and flood survivors.

Thanks

Stephanie

Nabs is NC slang for crackers like peanut butter or cheese sandwich crackers right? I have lots of friends from eastern nc that call it that. Great hearing about this. G'luck!

Nabs

Thanks JQ for the vote of support! Yes, nabs are peanut butter type crackers. When we were sorting through our life's flooded leftovers, you need something easy, quick and something to take away the feeling of hunger. Many a day we lived on nabs, water, Little Debbie cakes etc. Hope we get some good response from our friends and family in our area to pull this off. Thanks again

This is what we're hearing on the local news:
-the Pascagoula, MS area is in pretty bad shape--they showed people sifting through the remains of a grocery store strewn over a parking lot searching for food (Pascagoula is on Hwy. 90 not far over the AL/MS line and would include Moss Point which we hear also got it bad); NOTE: The authorities say that all major routes into MS (I-10, Hwy. 90, Hwy. 98) are closed so it may be difficult to get there.
-There are refugees from New Orleans and MS at the Robertsdale, AL Coliseum. They have been asking for in kind donations (food, water, diapers, etc.). Robertsdale is in Baldwin County off Hwy. 59 (the road to Gulf Shores).
Perhaps that info will help. God bless!

You could try and get there by going west on Airport Blvd in Mobile which turns in to highway 614 in MS. 614 runs into Highway 63 and that takes you into Moss Point and Pascagoula. My daughter has traveled that way from Hurley, MS and she said it is open
