Waveland and Bay St. Louis: Almost Everyone dead???

#1 Postby Brent » Wed Aug 31, 2005 10:38 pm

I just saw a report that was on the news earlier that the town of Waveland, MS is completely gone... everyone is dead, and over in Bay St. Louis the police station is gone and all the personnel are dead. I don't even think we know how bad it is yet...

I was afraid of that. I think in the coming days we will be shocked.

I don't even think the police have anything to go through... I think it's literally that bad.

Anderson Cooper from CNN is in Bay St. Louis... which per Microsoft Streets and Trips is the neighboring town. This is beyond horrible. Does anyone know how many stayed in the two towns and if there were evacuation orders???

Elevation: 17 feet

County: Hancock

Median household income: $33,304 (year 2000)
Median house value: $90,100 (year 2000)

Bay St Louis

Population (year 2000): 8,209, Est. population in July 2002: 8,143 (-0.8% change)
Males: 3,933 (47.9%), Females: 4,276 (52.1%)

Elevation: 25 feet

County: Hancock

Land area: 6.1 square miles

Median resident age: 39.2 years
Median household income: $34,106 (year 2000)
Median house value: $92,400 (year 2000

What I find interesting is the elevations of 17 ft and 25ft. Wasent the storm surge reported as high as 35ft? If that is true no one that stayed in a single level home survived without a miricle.

I hope most left town. If not I don't think I want to know how many died.

I pray that we do not set a new record.

Elevations of towns are not single points while the elevation in an atlas is. Usually they choose the geographic center or town hall, but keep in mind that many houses would be lower and probably some higher.

Lets hope the bulk of these people evacuated as they were supposed too.

In my honest opinion......this is going to end up worse than 1900. I fear we've lost 20,000 or more lives, among them two cousins and their families in Gulfport and several good friends
