These pics came this morning from a coworker out in the field with the following message:

Have attached some pictures of some of the offshore rigs. I haven’t heard anything about the Thunderhorse (BP’s Largest rig) yet that nearly sunk after the last hurricane a few weeks ago.

· Venice, Louisiana took a major hit. The levees that are designed to protect Venice are now holding the water in!

· The Semi submersible Keltic Sea appears to be listing.

· It looks like the Noble Paul Romano has sustained damage to the upper part of the drilling mast.

· The Voyager looks ok.

· The huge Shell platform, Mars, took a hit. The drilling rig has toppled, and the structure looks like it has sustained major damage. This is a major producer in the Gulf!

· The heliport at Galliano (Air Log) is flooded.

The big bottleneck all along has been a maxed out refinery system. We can get plenty of crude. Now with 5 refineries down and damage assessments barely begun, it will be months before they're producing again. Not to mention the fact that all the people who work at the refineries and run the pipelines and distribution operations are now homeless. You think you had it bad before Katrina? You ain't seen nothing yet.

Fortunately, the SPR can supply the amount we normally pump from the Gulf of Mexico for well over a year. The key for the moment is to get the refineries back up ASAP.
