Federal Response

#1 Postby wwicko » Thu Sep 01, 2005 2:51 pm

On the whitehouse website are some links with information:

Presidential directives regarding the disaster:
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases ... 831-4.html

A list of actions being taken:
http://www.whitehouse.gov/infocus/hurricane/

And a transcript of the Presdient's speech:
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases ... 831-3.html

Is there anyone on this forum qualified and emotionally capable of making a sober assessment of this response?

noone probably, the only thing everyone should have the ability to realize is the time it takes for mobilization of an undertaking this large. father time ticks on, with or without a tragedy.

The response is coming. A family friend has a shipping-related business here in the Mobile area. He's been asked to prepare for the arrival of 3 Navy ships here "very soon" (as he told us before he headed off to work to start the preps) to help coordinate relief efforts. I agree the response has taken awhile, but the magnitude of this is just unprecedented. The logistics have to be the ultimate nightmare.

The hurricane and effects are out of human control.

How we prepare for hurricanes and how we respond are in human control.

Because of humans lack of preparation, emergency planning, and poor response , people are dying and suffering from Hurricane horrifically.
And knowing that people are dying and suffering because of humans lack of response makes me grieve and hurt.
I'm grieved to see what I feel is preventable and needless suffering death and misery. Humans are making poor decisions in this whole nightmare and people are paying with their lives. The decision makers will have to live with this the rest of their lives, this is taking and will take a terrible toll on them too. Trying not to blame or judge, just grieving.
