The Parking Lot and Rose Garden at the Fairhope Big Pier. A pretty big drop to water from the sidewalk but it was no match for the storm surge.

How bad was storm damage in Fairhope and Point Clear areas? Always thought it was one of the most beautiful areas.

By the way if it had been my husband out taking those photos I probably would have kicked his a** when I saw them! :eek:

It was bad. The Grand Hotel had a lot of damage. The house down there are full of mud and bay water. Along HWY 1 the house were damaged. My neighbor has a house down there and he said that it had at least 4ft of water in it.

And yes when I saw these picture I wanted to kick dh's you know what. He was working though (City) and was out checking things. I was at my house in Fairhope with the girls. Scary moments for us but nothing like this. I am inland a good way. About five miles from the bay.

Also maybe if people see what a storm surge looks like and does hopefully they will follow the evacuation warnings. The night before the storm dh's had to go around Daphne and tell people along the beach and low lying area to get out and take their personal belongings. He said it was the hardest thing he has done in a while. Some people took his warning and others said they were staying. So far no deaths.

as bad as those pictures are just imagine what it was like from Biloxi west to St. Louis Bay where that NE eyewall came in

Exactly. These look bad but I can't even begin to imagine what the people in Mississippi and Louisana went through. It kind of puts it all into perspective. Scary thought!

As far as I know they didn't. Haven't heard of any since the storm.

Wow! Just wow! We went to a 4th of July party 2 years ago at a home right next to May Day Park. Haven't heard from those folks how they made out. And I recognized the new Beach House Grill in the picture from the Causeway. Do you know how badly it was damaged? We heard the Bluegill was in really bad shape-- almost gone. I wonder if that poor guy lost both his restaurants. (Of course, he used to own Pelican Point and I'm sure that must be gone.) We're saddened at the loss of a couple of our favorite restaurants: Nan Seas and the new Wintzell's on Dog River (used to be The Wharfhouse). Also, we have news today of three friends of our families that have lost their primary residences down on the bay and at Dauphin Island. These are surely tough times.

Thanks for the pics Beachbum. I live there in Daphne, and run with a group on Sundays from the Fairhope pier down Mobile St. to the Grand.....I haven't been back home yet (I work in Mobile), so I haven't had a chance to see the damage other than what I've seen on news reports.

Baygirl, I can't report too much on the others....but yes, the Blue Gill got hit very hard but suprisingly enough is still somewhat there (I don't know if it is salvagable or not. It appeared the The Beach House Grill fared a little better.....looked as if it sustained a lot of damage, but it IS still there!
We made a "burger run" here from work last night and went across the causeway.......Most everything else along the causeway was pretty much gutted or wiped completely away. Argios...gone. Oyster House...bottom floor...gone. etc....etc. :(

Thanks, Gulf Stream. Sounds like it will be quite awhile before we'll need babysitters so we can catch The Tip Tops at Blue Gill on a pleasant Sunday evening again. :cry:

How high was the surge in Daphne?
