#1 Postby MKT2005 » Thu Sep 01, 2005 2:46 pm

I have news that they are starting turning away refugese from the astrodome who didn't come from the superdome, and aparently they started to arrest some of them calling them looters. How disgusting is this.

Where is this news coming from? I know this was the case earlier today but was supposedly reversed.

And your information is totally incorrect. The announcement has been made that they are accepting refugees who are losing their motel rooms because they do not have enough money to continue to pay for them.

What is disgusting is posting something like you did that you know nothing about. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE CREDIBLE SOURCES BEFORE YOU POST INFORMATION LIKE THIS. I heard the announcement on the radio. They are also announcing where Houstonians need to go to offer more assistance. I don't know where you got your information but it is WRONG!!!

I think they said they're trying to get the special needs people out first. At this point, with lack of water, it seems hard to tell who isn't special needs.

This was reported by a guy on one of the buses out of the Superdome. It was a first hand account, so I definitely believe this to be true, and sad :(

It seems like people in the superdome have been given priority, while those without food and water on the streets aren't getting any help, no wonder they are looting.

The ones in the Superdome placed themselves under the protection of the state prior to the hurricane and have also been checkes for weapons and drugs.

Both from a moral and practical standpoint, they need to be dealt with first.

You can only place so many people safely on a bus. Another thought-How many vehicles of various sorts have been hijacked in NO in the last 24 hours. I'm not sure I would open the doors of a bus I was driving to anyone that was not cleared to be on it unless there was a clear and obvious immediate need/emergency.

Women and children are droping dead left and right on the streets of NOLA from starvation and dehydration. Something needs to be done, and nothing is being done to help these people. Countless children must be dead now due to startvationa nd dehydration on the streets of NOLA because the goverment said they don't care about these people.

The people who are out on the streets might actually be in better condition then those who have been kept inside the Superdome since Sunday. At least they have fresh air to breathe. They are not necessarily laying in their own waste. They are not inside a non a/c building that has gotten up to 90 degrees most days.

Everyone is suffering, but the decision was MADE to take care of the Superdome people first. Of course there are more desparate people out there, but the aid has to start somewhere, and it has to be controlled. Otherwise the Astrodome is going to turn into an air-conditioned replica of the Superdome.

Also, given the social unrest, transporting the folks in the Superdome is much safer. It is my understanding from news reports that everyone in the Superdome was "processed," that is checked for any contraband (drugs, weapons, etc.) before being allowed inside. Those folks on I-10 are without a doubt in a horrible situation. However, given the news reports of civil unrest and armed thugs trying to shoot people and comandeer vehicles for whatever reason, they definitely need to proceed with caution.

People in the Superdome have food and water and somewhere to sleep atleast. People on the streets are droping dead like flies.

They are helping these people as quickly as they can given the conditions that they are working in.

They already said they had no plans of bringing in food and water to these people. Only people in the shelter will get food and water. People outside the shelter area now, will get no food or water. This was already said. People who aren't in the shelter now are NOT being allowed to go to the shelter. They will all die if the govermetn continues to do this.

People do not normally die of starvation in a matter of days. The already ill and weak would be more at risk, but I'm pretty sure hydration is the bigger problem of the two.

Yes people are dying from dehydration because there is no clean water for them, and the goverment has already said it WON'T send any clean water into NOLA for them. Sad really.
