Cafferty playing race card?
Just saw Cafferty on CNN and he mentioned the fact that those stranded are black and poor. Not sure why it is relevant - just hate seeing that card played. Class and color do not matter.

There's nothing wrong with the truth. I just don't see what that has to do with anything. Is it being implied that they are being "punished" or left behind because they are black and poor? I suspect these people are in their predicament mainly because they are poor (regardless of color) and they didn't have the menas to get out.
I, too, despise PC by the way.

He brought it up because he was relating to people (I forget the official place where he got the initial statement) chastizing the media for ignoring the race and economic issue. I saw him talking about this, and that's the only reason he brought it up. He agreed that the majority of the victims are poor and black, you can see that in the videos.

This is my point. I don't know the exact demographics but if you fill a bag with 200 blue skittles and 5 red skittles and then empty out half of it, what are you going to get?
I took the tone of his statments to mean people are being slighted becuase of their color/class.

He said the media is ignoring the big elephant in the room - that most are black and poor. I'm not saying he's racist at all. Just wondering why it was even brought up. Kind of like going to Italy and saying, "Hey, did you notice all these people are Italian???"
If most people are obviously black and poor, why is it such a "giant elephant" being ignored?
Just thought it was odd.

If you believe if this was in a predominatly affluent area (parts of L.A. or NY) and the situation was being handled the same you live with your head in the ground. I'm a white, upper-middle class, educated, business owner and what you are seeing its racism at its worst. How hard is it to load up water and food in a helicopter and fly over and drop it. It should be able to be done in a matter of hours not days.
Its a travesty and believe it when you hear race is factor. Because its the TRUTH, I don't know much, but I know that.
Look how 9/11 was handled, you had food and water being delivered that night to ground zero. It has to be done here. 1000's will die, not because of Katrina, but because people in charge cant get crap done. Heck, I saw Harry Connick on TV this morning, I know you can get in and out of the city.

Obviously I dont agree with how the situation is being handled. I am just agreeing that the people there are mostly black and poor. I think the way we are handling this is pure crap. There is so much more to be done. And we all know that Katrina didn't kill these people. If that was so, then they wouldnt be walking around begging for help.

I thought his comments relating to Congress, Katrina and Terry Schiavo were most telling....
Can't remember his exact wording, but he basically said that Congress was willing to stop what they were doing and fly to Washington in the middle of the night while in recess to deal with the Terry Schiavo case and here it is almost 5 days later and they are discussing maybe returning by tomorrow.
I have to say I agree with him totally. Make me sick.

9-11 was a few square blocks with no flooding, plus it was in Manhattan. You'd have to be stupid not to see that most urban residents are black in New Orleans. The stupid part was this snotty CNN reporter and they way he posed the questions. What is a travesty is the fact the government of Lousinana and New Orleans in particular had no disaster plan. It was more and more money thrown at social programs and redistrubuting the wealth of other Louisianans to New Orleans and other impoverished parts of the state. Nothing done with the levees or investing seriously in infrastructure upgrades. You had dilapadated government housing projects where no hope abounds, combine that with liberal press ginning people up and you have an explosive mix.

The Mississippi gulf coast has a completely different demographic and they are just as slow in getting supplies and help as new orleans and only getting half the coverage on the news. I would have to disagree with the statement that it's a matter of race. However we aren't seeing news coverage of folks on the Mississippi gulf coast shooting guns into the air at helicopters attempting to help so perhaps a different kind of 'class' is represented.
I'm sorry I understand about being hungry and frustrated and tired and afraid. I really do understand it brings out the worst in human nature and I'm fairly certain that it isn't everyone in NO that is behaving so poorly. However are those the only ones we get to see on the news?
I have lived both in NO and on the MS Gulf Coast. My home is the MS gulf coast. These are both tragedies of a proportion that I can't fully wrap my mind around. I'm still in a state of shock. My home is gone. Jobs are gone. And these beautiful places are forever gone. I'm devestated as I am sure those in NO are but to belittle what's going on next door or say that more is getting one place than another because of race when it simply isn't true makes me angry on top of all the other emotions going on in my mind right now.
I don't post here often, in fact I'm not sure I ever have, so I apologize if I said something inappropriate but statements like this are just so absurd to me.
