Pojo is leaving....

#1 Postby pojo » Wed Aug 31, 2005 8:06 pm

I leave for the desert this weekend, yes, this weekend. I will be gone from Sept 3rd to Jan 17th. Jan 17th is only estimated due to the fact we don't know exactly when our replacements will get there. As of right now, I'll be in Qatar (the resort base) and hopefully, I'll be there for the entire duration.

Keep the prayer wheel going to ensure my safety.

Poppysky (azskyman) will receive updates from me when ever I get a chance to get on the computer. Hopefully, he will pass them along to you guys.

I'll enjoy it the best that I can.

I already have 2 strikes against me and I'm not over there yet.
1) I'm a lady... women are 'owned' by men outside of the home.
2) I'm extremely ambidextrious. I have to stop from using my left hand........ I eat lefty and do MANY other things lefty. That culture... left hand is dirty.

Thanks for the support.

On your first point, I've talked to a few women who have been over there and they said they didn't run into too many problems (although they didn't specify what problems they did run into). Hopefully that fact would go as smoothly as possible.

As for being ambidextrious... I'm the same way - I feel your pain! I would be in a world of hurt if I couldn't use my left hand.

Anyway, I happened to have a file sitting here on climatology there in Qatar. Not so fun in September. The average high and low is 106 and 80, respectively, with a north-northwesterly breeze at 8 mph. October isn't much better with an average high and low of 100 and 74, respectively, with a north-northwesterly wind at 6 mph. However, November should be pleasant. 87 and 66 are the average extremes with a northwest wind of 9 mph. December is even better -- 75 and 59 with a northwest wind of 10 mph. Climatologically speaking, each month picks up a few days of blowing dust, while a third of each month sees at least some light fog to start off the day.

Nonetheless, best of luck and hurry back home!

thanks for the climate update.... I looked up the climatology info a couple of days ago.... didn't see the wind conditions or the chances for fog.

I have to see what the day brings... I'm not looking forward to the flight..... however, adjusting to the conditions over there hopefully shouldn't be a problem... we have one group over there now... they should help with the adjustment period.

Godspeed. Take care and come back safely.

And yeah, from another ambidexterous person--the problem will be to remember it's your left hand so you don't forget... (it helped me to actually mark it or wear a ring to remember.....
