URGENT BELL SOUTH CUSTOMERS

Breaking news from Fox TV. I don't know if it is one of the buildings on fire but firetrucks and other equipment are trying to get to the Bell South Building in New Orleans to pour water on what they call the chillers. If it goes down most of the southeast could lose landline phone service.

The building isn't on fire they are sending in fire units to put water on the "chillers" These are units that cool the computer and electrical systems of the switching system.

Oh No! There goes my computer access since I am on Bellsouth DSL and most of the cities in my area our on Bellsouth T1 lines and phones services. Opps! I hope they get it cooled.

Well, at least the media got the word "chillers" correct, still it would be a disaster for people who rely on their landlines & dsl thru them

Yeah that would really be bad considering some 228 area codes (MS GULF COAST) now have service, and can communicate with family and friends!

No Chiller means no Air Conditioning

No Air Conditioning means the comm equip will overheat (transmitters & power supplys will get flakey and/or fail). Also, I've heard that the employees who maintained the building and equipment were told to leave on Wed. I heard that the building was to be used as a command center by State Police & Nat'l Guard and there was only about nine days of fuel then. I saw the bldg on the news the other night and the BellSouth sign was still lit up...they should've turned it and all the other uneccessary lights and equip off to shed some of the load...oh well... :roll:

If it goes down it will not only affect Bellsouth customers but all the other that use use the Bellsouth lines.
