It's time to face the facts folks

Discuss the recovery and aftermath of landfalling hurricanes. Please be sensitive to those that have been directly impacted. Political threads will be deleted without notice. This is the place to come together not divide.

I'm respectful of the value of government, and when it comes to government, I believe you get what you pay for. The government is welcome to use my full share of taxes wisely for anything in the local, state, national, or global interest (including those things I may quibble about, but recognize come about by due democratic process). That includes helping the people of New Orleans to rebuild their lives. Furthermore, I want the people of New Orleans to rebuild the way they want to, because I value individual liberty.

The problem is that I understand the basics of history, psychology, and economics, and a bit more than the basics surrounding the financing of construction in flood plains. So I am not an optimist, but I am willing to be proven wrong.
