Hey all, thanks. John and I are doing great. Neither of us want a cigarette now. I guess the zyban is causing that. What is bad for us is the withdrawals. They are pretty bad, but normal. We talked to a friend here is PR who works at the pharmaceutical that makes zyban and he said this is normal. My chest still feels like it is full of nicotine. After 40 years, I am sure my whole body is coated, etc. We both have sore throats and our mouths still taste like trash cans. This is the nicotine escaping our bodies. Horrible sweating too. It has been a week now and we find we sleep better now. And, we have no problem in the morning with our coffee and after meals. Yes, the first few days were bad, but this is a strong drug. We know we can make it. John got our second month prescription, so two months will do it for us. What helps is no cigarettes or ashtrays in the house. The house is starting to get rid of its horrible smell too. Thanks, Janice

Janice,

I hear you loud and clear...but since I'm already taking a mix of antidepressants (nefazodone, doxepin, clonazepam), most smoking-cessation aids are contraindicated...and my insurance doesn't cover the "aids", either.

I'd LOVE to be able to quit, but assistance is not available to me.

Yes, we have Blue Cross Blue Shield thru my husbands university and they will not cover any prescription for stop smoking, generic included. This is costing us a lot of money, but it will be well worth it. Our insurance company puts this in the catagory of an elected drugs.

about the cost of the zyban: consider that a pack of smokes is approaching $5.00 a pack (at least here), and that a pack-a-day habit costs $150 per person per month!

Yes, and when two people smoke it is twice as much.

And smoking is an addiction just like being addicted to any other drug.

Janice,

I just wanted to congratulate you on quitting smoking! From what they say, with any habit, if you can get through the first 3 weeks, your chances of success are wonderful! Hang in there!
