Well,
Nagin just said that people in power did not want to give up their positions or power.

No he is only saying what many do not want to hear and he's saying it anyway....
Sorry but this time people everywhere will just have to sit back and listen...
They will start counting bodies, the magnitude of this will shock not only the nation but the world itself.
There is time for finger pointing latter, but the current preservation of life is necessary now.
I think the offer by the Dutch Government to send those Levy/Flood plain engineers will have to be taken seriously.
Agendas will be changed in Washington, money will be diverted from other obligations, this is just too big to ignore.
As a Navarre, which is near Pensacola resident, CAN YOU IMAGINE WHAT KIND OF SHOCK ANOTHER HURRICANE RIGHT NOW WOULD PUT THIS NATION IN.

Perhaps you haven't been following this closely. Gov. Blanco would not call for Martial Law or the PCA.

I would have much more respect for Nagin if he would start owning up to his responsibilities and failures. Maybe he feels he handled this perfectly and its other people's fault. Its probably a breakdown all up the line. Frankly, the enormity of this may have been too much period. Bless all those who are helping in this endeavor.

All up the line is the key phrase here....no matter what Nagin failed or did not fail to do, he wasn't on vacation like some members of the executive and the majority of both sides of the isle in Congress. He was at his post, he was performing his job. That man ordered a mandatory evacuation of the entire city. There was even transportation available even though it was in the most part not utilized.
The unbelievable thing I saw today was people refused to be evacuated from residences in that filthy water. I sometimes wonder if my 73 year old father would leave his farm house in Alabama under similar circumstances. It's all he has.
There is a family of nine people and two dogs from Biloxi, Mississippi living a trailer here in Navarre. I moved a sofa in there for them last night and fixed a toilet for them this morning. These people have money, they lived in a house right across from the casinos there. They asked me not to get the churches involved, they have pride. The 65 year old grandmother swam to safety with her two dogs. Do you know why they didn't leave, they were afraid of looters.
You know people have to wake up and someday realize, that you can't take it with you brother.

I am so sick and tired of people using this catastrophe to further their own political agenda. Nagin dropped the ball. Period. He didn't implement New Orleans' evac plan in time, and not at all in some instances. And why? Political expediency--to cover his own arse. He didn't want to deal with the backlash if the storm once again changed course at the last minute and became somebody else's problem, so he put off making the hard decisions until it was too late to make them.
He was called at home by Max Mayfield, who pleaded with him to get his people out of town. He was called by President Bush, who pleaded with him to get his people out of town. And his response? "I don't know what legal authority I have to do that." Give me a break.
He didn't fill the buses that are sitting in flooded parking lots right now. He didn't plan for the disruptions in the city's infrastructure, health care systems, communications systems, or transportation systems. That type of planning is a LOCAL responsibility, SUPPORTED by the federal government.
The simple fact of the matter is that, had Nagin done his damn job instead of covering his own worthless butt, many of these problems we're seeing with evacs would have been largely unnecessary. The only people that would still be in harm's way would be the ones who were too foolish to comply with evacuation orders, and I have a hard time feeling a whole lot of sympathy for people who are victims of their own poor judgment.
