I don't think General Honore cares one way or the other about what the media thinks of him. He's done his time and this is probably close to the finish line for this Cajun. He made a great point though if your not there and your aren't pitching in don't report what you don't know. His real target was the imbecile Louisana congressman that is blaming the fed's for everything and saying nothing but kind things for the Mayor and Governor.

Of course he had the right. It just wasn't a smart play for the long haul and generals are supposed to know that. Maybe he will get lucky. We can all watch and see.
The media has already decided to make him a hero, so he's probably safe. And to be honest, from the looks of it he really IS a hero, so he's safe.

He reminds me of that guy from Apocalypse Now. "Charlie don't surf!"

Somebody was going to do it, so I went ahead and posted first on Joint Task Force Katrina. Read what's in the link, it says a lot. This is the group that Gen. Honore is leading in his masterful response.

Like them or hate them, the media are our window to what's happening. They've shown us the terrible devastation and slowness of the response to it. I for one am thankful for them. And I fully expect they will be barred and repressed from reporting the truth if the military start hauling innocent people from their homes at gunpoint.

I think it's interesting that you think that people should not be compelled to leave their homes. As I understand it the authority to do so has been given just not exercised yet. As to the "barred and repressed" comment, on what basis do you figure that will happen or is it just a swipe at the military. Just curious.

Name the top three people most responsible for the "staggering loss of life due to inaction"?
Go ahead, I can't wait. This actually ought to be a lot of fun.
Are you sure you want to turn this into a political discussion? Because I think that's frowned upon. I know I personally would be happy to name the three people I would guess (1) are responsible, but it will sprial into a political discussion, which seems to be more or less what you're looking for.
(1) The fog of war is too thick now to fully determine just what went wrong. Time and media/congressional investigations will tell, and believe you me, people WILL be fired and some politicians WILL NOT be re-elected.

soonertwister, I never said anything about a staggering loss
of life due to inaction. maybe you picked that up somewhere else
in this thread. obviously you're looking for a political twist... but not only
has politics been prohibited from this forum, i can also safely say that none of my comments would change if a democrat was in the white house, or a republican was governor of louisiana.
ncdowneast - I agree !

Windy, I like your little number one there. So true.
As for people wanting to name names......there is alot of finger pointing.
This will take time.....but...somehow I think it will still end up being a real mess........ya know the old saying......"S*** always rolls downhill"
This can be debate all day long and there still will not be resolution to this.
We all have seen the SOP(standard operating procedure) for disasters. We have seen plenty of documentation of what was supposed to have happened. We have seen past news stories of worst case senarios.
And we will continue to watch the powers that be pass the buck.
Even General H has made ambiguous comments in regard to who is responsible......But he makes me laugh. He is the typical Military commander......there is a term for him but entails much cussing."HAMF"
He will NOT deal with all of the BS right now.....he is on a mission and intends to accomplish this. Once his mission is over........I just bet......IT IS ON! You can look at his eyes and see, just below the surface.....He is working hard, very hard, to control his anger. And he will.....Until the mission is complete. And then as you said Windy, HEADS WILL ROLL.

The amazing thing is it took until about midday Tuesday before the US national media finally realised there might be a little problem with their preceding published optimistic stories about NO having dodged the 'big one' ... remember that everyone? ... and now the media seem intent on pretending that they are not also very much to blame for getting things wrong and costing who knows many lives because of their tardy, inaccurate and slow response to grasp what had happened.
