Michelle in 2001 comes to mind. It formed in the southwest Caribbean near the Yucatan Peninsula and moved northward, reaching Category Four strength before a Cuban landfall. It steered northeast away from the Florida Keys and Florida after crossing Cuba, thankfully. It weakened once it reached the Cuban coastline and moved off gradually to the northeast.

Definately an area to watch, as well as anywhere in the Gulf of Mexico, Bay of Campeche and throughout the Atlantic Basin.
