New Orleans being big into Mardi Gras along with the Gulf Coast Cities in MS. Mardi Gras is big here too. I know this is far fetch but I was thinking that when the Mobile area along with Daphne and Fairhope and any other Mardi Gras Organization has their balls that they adopt one of the organizations that have lost everything and invite them to their Balls. I don't know about parades though because I believe that most of the floats are made in NO.

This is just an idea and it is probably crazy because they are focusing on saving lifes which they need to do. But in the future I think it would be a great idea.[/b]

Ahh, yes...the infamous Doodle Do Parade, homage to the dead rooster of New Orleans...

"The parade began modestly in 1997 when Stephens invited a handful of friends to his Ybor City home to pay respects to his dead pet rooster, who was killed by a dog. He led his black-dressed guests on a march through the neighborhood before returning to his house for a party.

I have not read anything regarding the cancellation of Guavaween. This other parade, the chicken parade, is not associated with Guavaween at all...As far as I know, Guavaween is still on for October 29th.

http://www.mobile.org/ab_mardigras.php okay found this website that answered my question. I think an adoption by Mobile for the year would be a wonderful idea. Great for Mobile and it would be nice for the whole gulf coast to have a way to coax tourism back to the area

Mobile, Al not New Orleans like everyone thinks. There has already been talk arouond here about what Mardi Gras will be like this coming year having so many temporary and permanemt transplants from NO.

I personally am not a big fan or Mardi Gras but I do get several days off because of it and where I work. It would be a morale boosting kind of thing though I guess for some folks. A sense of temporary normalcy. It will be interesting to see what happens.
