Duckie, there's a lot of healthcare facilities that aren't accredited by JCAHO. http://www.jcaho.org/

CNN reported last night that the report of 100 dead among those rescued from St. Bernard Parish was highly exaggerated. There are some people who died, but nowhere near 100. Who knows what the truth really is at this point.

I also heard on CNN last night that there originally around 80 folks in that nursing home and they couldnt evacuate them all.

That says about 40 to 50 folks were rescued from that facility.

I guess that's just a bizarre concept to me -- that they would remain open. After working almost two decades in hospitals, I'm familiar with the JCAHO visits and I've heard about things that cause facilities to lose their accreditation. I guess I just never realized that they were still able to operate without it.
