is south florida safe?
One local meterologist here in south florida....can't remember her name feels that south florida will be safe from Ophelia. How can a statement like that be made if the track is so uncertain? Do most of you feel we are safe here in dade and broward?

Since Ophelia is north of South Florida's latitude I think were safe from this storm because none of the models have it moving South Or SW. One senario has it moving west across N FL and the other a slow drift north then NE out to sea. I don't see this storm pulling a Betsy either.

True that it is north of our latitude but after the loop will it still be...can it take that much of a dip southwest?

I guess it's too early to speculate....I told my hubby that if we get anything out of this....I am leaving.....not worried so much about damage....I just don't like to hear the winds no matter what speed...Katrina made me very nervous....and my son still has a hard time when he sees dark clouds...he thinks every storm is going to blow his house down....I don't want to put him through that again.

If there's any northward component to the drift over the next two to three days, I don't see her getting far enough south when (if) she loops to affect us. It just doesn't seem the ridge will be strong enough to do that.
If the motion over the next couple of days is stationary to slowly east, then there's still some small chance were affected in the 5 to 7 day range.

Local Met
Channel 6 this morning, Lonnie Smith, states that if this storm moves further out to see and starts her southwest movement back, South Florida can very well be back in the target zone....guess we all will see.
