Ophelia GRLevel 3 Hi-Res Images

#1 Postby jasons2k » Wed Sep 07, 2005 6:13 pm

And so it begins....

Here is the method to the madness:

I place a marker, centered on the storm and upload the image. I don't move the marker for several hours so I can see the storm's relative movement as it moves away from the marker.

After a fews hours, I reset the marker to get a new fix.

Note, you need to click on the thumbnail to open the image. Once it's opened, you may need to click on it AGAIN (and/or maximize your window) to see it fullsize. You should be able to read the time stamp (right column) clearly. All times are CDT.

Allright wobble watchers, go nuts :D :D

Almost stationary now...

Which map background are you using? The green topo that I downloaded has the water blue which plays havoc with the radar returns.

The Topo map I'm using has the filename 48USAcolshade[1].tif (was a .bmp) I found it on the GRLevel 3 support forum.

If you can't resolve the water color, maybe try a new color palette for the radar. Hope this helps.

The software is GRLevel3 and it's bar-none the best radar software available to the general public IMO (except Level2 hehe). There is a trial version for free, but when my 30 days was up I gladly paid the $79.

The street-level maps, topo maps, etc. are not bundled with it. You have to grab them yourself but the support forums point you to the right places.

I've spent a lot of time customizing my color pallettes, etc., to my preferences.

OH, the red lines on there are not included - those are compliments of me and MSPaint :-)

That's a pretty darn impressive radar image for a little 'ol t.s. I suspect we will see a hurricane sooner than most are predicting. The weather here in Orlando/Sanford has the look of a looming tropical system, gusty winds, frequent but brief misty showers. Its kinda refreshing, a nice change from the oppressive heat. Just hope it doesn't become something more.

USE WITH CAUTION. The center has been reorganizing a little to the ENE and is not really as much NE of the marker as it appears. It's essentially stationary - in fact, I think my last marker may have been placed a tad too far to the west, but I will leave it for now.

In that image the eye is more ragged than earlier. It appears that she is intensifying as much as she is moving, ie. none. I stand corrected from my earlier post.

From satellite imagery, I was thinking she was starting to bomb :?: :dont:

IR satellite can be somewhat misleading. The better indicators are radar, winds and pressure. Right now the pressure has gone up 1mb, the winds are up to 65 and the radar shows a pretty ragged eye - a mixed bag.

Note, in this still image it looks like the center is well east of the marker, but in fact it has been wobbling around it all afternoon.

Mind if I ask what software program you are using?
