#1 Postby recmod » Fri Sep 09, 2005 3:46 am

The damage / recovery costs of Hurricane Katrina continues to soar. One govt official has stated that the damage could top $200 Billion!!!

U.S. Rep. William Jefferson, D-New Orleans, told WWL-TV that rebuilding the city could cost more than $200 billion. “It’s important to talk about the big number up front,” he said.

In this day and age, it's entirely possible.

With the boom of development along the coastline, the costs of a major hurricane were going to skyrocket. It was only a matter of time before a big cane made landfall in the right spot. Katrina did. That's why she will cost so much.

We will rebuild the areas effected by Katrina at a higher cost trying to make things more storm worthy, and as people continue to move to the coastal areas whether it's the Gulf coast or Florida or the Carolina's Hurricanes like Katrina will always be a threat.

Katrina will be the Storm that we will measure all other canes to, and yes we will unfortunately see another Katrina type of Hurricane effect the U.S. mainland in the future whether it's another 40 yrs from now or next year their will be another and the cost will be even greater.

The only good outcome will be in future years homes and buildings will be much stronger and able to take more ( other than a storm surge such as this one) and will reduce the expenditure of hurricane damage and life.
