Thank goodness the animals are now also getting help. I thought I would be sending money to out of state animal welfare groups who are helpling in N.O. and Miss., but first I called our own SPCA in Mobile. The Mobile SPCA went to Waveland yesterday and picked up 7 dogs and a number of cats. They have received huge donations of cages and food from all over the country. They will have room for lots of the displaced animals. The difficult part will be finding the animals owners--- The SPCA staff said they saw horrible things in Waveland --- like dogs still tied to chains etc.
Think of how excited families will be to know their pets have been saved ----wish they all could have been saved

- Location: Galveston, oh Galveston (And yeah, it's a barrier island. Wanna make something of it?)
I heard a report earlier today that mentioned that it's also safer to rescue the animals as soon as possible and get them back into loving conditions or else they resort to traveling in packs and turning wild. So, in the end, even if some feel that animals aren't important, it's a safety issue for humans.
But I'm an animal lover and I've seen what how therapeutic they are for the survivors...so I know there's more to it.

Has been in NO since almost the beginning rescuing pets. I think they've rescued well over 1000 so far. The SPCA of Texas is also out there along with other SPCA chapters.

Over 30 dogs arrived overnight in the Cincinnati area - all available for adoption. I saw a few on the morning news. One dog was shaking, my heart broke for that one. A Pets Mart employee was holding a huge yellow lab, in her arms, he was so traumatized. God Bless them!

Of course, the animals have to get used to new pack members
(thinking like a canine) but, once they get used to those folk's
smell, and, realize the smell of the new "feeder person", they should
do ok, with lotsa love and attention!
I would only hope that someone would take my 'ole pooch in
like that, if conditions were the same!

The Lamar Horse Expo center in Gonzales, LA has over 1200 rescued animals and they need many volunteers to help out. I am going today to volunteer. If anyone can get to this location, please come volunteer for these pets, as they've not been able to give food and water to all of them due to lack of people able t do it. They do NOT need food, just bodies to help.
