Lixion needs a day off...

#1 Postby Scott_inVA » Sat Sep 10, 2005 11:07 am

OPHELIA HAS A LARGE AREA OF TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS...AND THESE WINDS MAY BE APPROACHING THE COAST EARLIER THAN THE CENTER OF THE HURRICANE.

FORECASTER AVILA

Errr...that generally is how this works

I know for me this has been one long season and admire how they survive this.

Saw that too and wondered "what the _?" I think maybe he meant to insert "...well before the center..." or something to that effect.....

Even the best writers have grammar errors, if not, then probably they won't need editors!

After the season is over, they need some vacationing in the Caribbean Islands to get ready for the 2006 Hurricane Season.

Don't remember where the forecasts and discussons oddities thread went, but here's one from Avila on Katrina. (found it while digging for proof Santorum is an idiot)

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/archive/2005/di ... .019.shtml?

INDICATE THAT THE CYCLONIC CIRCULATION EXTENDS
UPWARD TO ABOUT 200 MB AND IT IS SURROUNDED BY A LARGE SCALE
UPPER-LEVEL ANTICYLONE. THIS PATTERN...IN COMBINATION WITH THE HIGH
OCEANIC HEAT CONTENT...FANCY WORDS FOR A WARM OCEAN...

I think after Katrina they aren't taking any chances. I don't think it was a mix up. Katrina proved how many hurricane ignorant people there are  They want to make sure EVERYONE knows what to expect.
