Floating cows in GOM..60 miles offshore Pensacola

My friend said a friend of hers was fishing out in the Gulf and when he started reeling in a fish, he saw cows floating in the water. Needless to say, he threw the fish back in the Gulf and it will be a super long time before I eat anything from the Gulf again.

No telling what else is out there in the Gulf or how long it has been there!!

Not to be gross or anything but cruise ships dump much worse in perfectly fine weather. :eek:

I concur about the cows. My husband went fishing last weekend on Saturday and they saw cows, alligators, etc.

Exactly, and don't forget, marine mammals and billions of fish that die each year don't get cremated or buried when they kick the bucket. I'm surprised the sharks hadn't finished off the cows yet.

What do you think most fish eat, anyway? Put dead meat on a hook and you get strikes. I would not worry about eating the fish because of the cows, I'd worry more about the petrochemical toxins released into the Gulf.

Rotting carcasses in the ocean are nothing to worry about, as far as eating the fish living tehre are concerned. As has been mentioned, there are rotting carcasses in the ocean all the time. Cycle of life and all that jazz.

You do realize that they used dead thigns for bait for crabs and lobsters right?

Fish do other thing in the water besides die...think reproduction, look up broadcast spawners. :)

Shawn! Whenever we check out a new Sci-Fi rental, I see SG in DVD format, staring us in the face. Something tells me if I rented this movie, my daughter Laura would never forgive me. So I pass it by....is it really that creepy?

LOL! Barely though...I was 5 when the movie came out. Didn't see it until recently on Turner Classic Movies. But I remember an SNL skit guest-starring Charlton Heston, running around saying "Soylent green is PEEEEEEEEO-PLLLLLLLLE!!!!" And being a movie buff, I knew it as a trivia question. :)

Considering that there are federal standards for the amount of insect parts and rat feces allowed in processed meats I wouldn't be worrying about what a fish had for its last meal.
