I heard Laura Bush refer Hurricane Katrina as "Hurricane Corinna" during a brief news conference at an Iowa elementary school where evacuees children were enrolling.

Haha wow, that reminds me of one my friend told me on the phone a few days ago... Although, my story is less ignorance, and more towards heartlessness...

My friend: "We have one guy from New Orleans in my government class... And our teacher is always letting us discuss current events in the class. Naturally, everything's about Katrina. One boy raised his hand, in the presence of this evacuee, and said, 'The paper said they're taking 25,000 body bags to New Orleans!"

*Sigh*

One other thing and I know you'll get a good lay of the land and we appreciate your being with us again tomorrow, do you question your faith when something like this happens?

JESSE JACKSON: Well, I do not. This is a physical disaster. What I do is I analyze more clearly are these series of storms based upon our affecting the climate with ozone layers because of carcinogens? I raise that question.

ROTFLMAO

Anybody know the word PATHETIC.........

Jesse Jackson needs to wrassle with some gators and lose.

Here's mine: I went over to a group I work with to show them the 5 pm advisory on Friday (I also work in West Gulf Coast MS) and that the landfall point had moved to Biloxi. The secretary over there said, and I quote:

"Oh! Well, maybe instead of just getting Monday off, we'll get a whole week off!"

Several of us just stared at her. I commented that if we got a whole week off, it would be because we were in big, big trouble. Indeed, she got her week (and then some) off. Goon.

This one was so outlandish I had to go doublecheck it was real. Sure enough, it's there in the transcript.

Mindboggling.

My grandfather (in KY) asked me once why we'd have to evacuate. "Why can't you just go to the basement?"

Many years ago I was subbing at an elementery school in GA for a 6 week period. A hurricane was off the coast somewhere and a student ask me about it. I figured it was a good time to give students a lesson in hurricanes and hurrricane preparation. Although I explained how bad they could be, I also explained that one had several days to get prepared, etc. Would you believe the next day I was called into the principal's office to answer to why I was scaring the kids unnecessarily. Seems that one student was afraid of electrical storms and her mother came into complain that she was unable to sleep the night before.

The principal ended up complimenting me on taking the initative in teaching something the children needed to know in light of current events. However, he also ask me to refrain from discussing the weather with this child present. So sad.
