EXPERIMENTAL HURRICANE FORECAST
HURRICANE OPHELIA
NJN WEATHER CENTER
740 AM MON SEPT 12TH 2005
Hurricane Ophelia continues to spin near the coastal Carolina's this Monday morning as a minimal storm. She is also continuing to pump drier air into these areas as she decides where exactly she wants to go.
Ophelia is a minimal hurricane, she is even showing signs of being a little disorganized, perhaps due to the fact that she's just churning up waters now. Ophelia's strength is not expected to change much before landfall.
Hurricane Warnings remain up for the Carolina coast. The NHC's track has it possibly making a quick landfall along the Outer Banks and then headed into the open Atlantic.
My forecast agrees with the scenario and I will go with it making landfall there as a 75-80 mph Cat 1.
Here's my experimental 5 day outlook on Ophelia:
Today: Still creeping along. Maybe slight strengthening. Max winds: 80 mph
Tuesday: Beginning to move a little bit. Staying in tact as it moves closer to the Carolina's. Max winds: 80 mph
Wednesday: Brief landfall near Cape Hatteras, late in the day. Max winds: 80 mph
Thursday: Out into the open Atlantic by late in the day. Max winds: 65 mph
Friday: Out into the cooler Atlantic. Dissipating. Max winds: 45 mph
Ophelia Forecast #5: Brief landfall in Outer Banks,
