I hope I never see the day Walt Disney World closes!

Such a sad day... I liked Astroworld too.... and to make it into a real estate deal... I think they might rebuild something somewhere else.. Who knows... What are the kids going to do now? I know all you fellow Houstonians have heard of the rumor of a Disney off of I 10... Something to think about...

I do kind of understand it though... It was getting over run with gangs and a few bad seeds that made it bad for the rest of us, and the price to get in was almost the same as Disney... What is this world coming too.. lol... ?

ps, I was 2 in the summer of 78... lol...

I loved Astroworld too. But, when I went I was too little to remember much. I went there when my aunt and uncle lived in Houston. I also loved the waterpark next door. I remember the waterpark better because I was a little older then. It will probably be a good while before I get to go to a Six Flags park. Six Flags over New Orleans was pretty messed up from Katrina. My cousin and I went to Six Flags over New Orleans the first week the summer started. As expensive and as hot as it was, I am still glad I got to go.

Not that I am small enough to ride the rides I want to or that I have been there in the last 10 years, but it is an institution in Houston and I hate to see it go. My guess is it is all part of a grand plan to make the dome area another convention destination again, like it used to be.

Astroworld has been losing money for years, it just can't compete with Six Flag's over Texas in Arlington and Fiesta Texas in San Antonio.

Brings back memories to me of when Coney Island Amusement Park closed in Cincinnati after several decades...severe flooding from the Ohio River put it out of business. They still have a swimming pool, picnic areas, a restaurant and an entertainment theater there at Old Coney, though.

Paramount Kings Island was built after Coney Island closed.

I don't know the physical sizes of those two parks, but I imagine they are much larger than the 109 acres Astoworld sits on. That probably has something to do with it too, besides that is prime real estate for office towers and convention hotels etc.

And I did like 6 Flags Arlington more than Astroworl last time I went(don't ask how long ago that was!!!) Never been to Fiesta Texas.

I've been to Six Flags in Arlington and Fiesta Texas in San Antonio. Both were lots of fun. But I've grown up going to Astroworld....many childhood memories there both with family and friends. I'm really sad to see it go. Image

Who cares about more office towers and convention hotels? Astroworld is classic. Image
