Jacksonville sits on a wide river (almost a bay) and is only 15 miles from the ocean. It is midway between Wilmington and Morehead City, and there are no other cities on the coast between the two. If you want to get technical, Morehead City isn't on the coast either, it sits behind the intercoastal, and Atlantic Beach is the city on the water. Same with Wilmington: Carolina Beach is on the beach, Wilmington sits on the Cape Fear river 10 miles or so inland.
