It's hardly even breezy here and a little bit of rain. It had better pick up or I'm going to lodge a complaint!!! :grrr:

In Jacksonville, NC....

It’s just starting to get windy. I'm sure I will see hurricane force winds later today. And by the looks of the radar, I would not be surprised if the eye passes over me.

Very windy....bursts of straight line rain followed by torrents, few tree limbs down. Still have electric but have talked to some who have lost it.
Local forecasters are saying 70 mph gusts in Southport, Kure Beach without Electric and some roads closed due to flooding. Come'on Ophelia....move on down the road!

Here in W Myrtle Beach, the trees are still doing a hula dance to the wind, the pool has overflowed, the pond is at the brink of overflowing, and the Peking ducks are now swimming thru the back yard. Have not seen any damage here, but I am hitting the road soon to check out the beach. Hopefully, for us, this is the tail end and we can proceed with "normal". Have heard that the sun is now shining in Georgetown. All of you above me, stay safe.

Reporting from Jacksonville, NC...

Winds are definitely on the increase. Gusting to about 40-45 mph right now, occasional gusts over 50 mph have been reported. The weather should really go down hill tonight.

Tropical rain here (small, misty drops,) about 20 mph wind steady, you can see the wind is higher at the tops of distant trees (I live near a lot of fields, and the main tree line is about a mile away.) A couple light branches have fallen at my neighbors house, nothing heavy yet. We have a tree fall across our road with every storm, maybe they are all finally down. Based on radar, first main rain band should hit here within 15 minutes.

Does anyone here near Havelock, NC have a spare Davis Weather Monitor II anemometer that I can borrow for this hurricane?

Just started pouring here. I can see whole trees in motion at the treeline, but it doesn't seem to be translating to the ground very well (I live in a pretty good natural windbreak, though.)

I put out a bucket so I could measure the rainfall. Since my last post, it has rained 3/4". There was a break in the rain for the past 15 minutes, but when I went outside to measure it started pouring again.

Re: heavy rain and wind Newport

It is getting pretty interesting here also. Nothing really major yet, but just moved my cars (there are two trees in my front yard that I was watching sway for the last 10 minutes and decided it was time to move them). Rain has been off and on, but mostly on. The highest wind I measured was 33 mph, but I think some of the trees are blocking my meter some. We have lots of little branches down, but have not seen any trees yet. My yard is a mess with just about the whole thing covered in little branches (all under one inch diameter). And the power has blinked a few times, but still on (and we still have cable). But it looks like we are still several hours away from the center.

And Bogue Sound is pretty high. It is touching the bottem of my pier, and my neighbor took off every other board on his this morning. So I am just hoping mine makes it through.

Talked to my mom about an hour ago down in Brunswick county (about 10 miles from wilmington). She said they had over 10 inches of rain so far and they said the TV station had reported to expect 3 - 5 more or so. Also, said they still have power. Also, said that heard on the scanner that there was a wind report of 84 mph out at Carolina Beach (gust).

just receieved an e mail form the town manager--he said the center is now projected to pass over Bogue Banks later this evening--over 620 residents are without power now in Emerald Isle--the satellite pics look much more impressive now--all those folks who said "no big thing" last night should be here now--it is really getting windy and the rain is pouring down--we mayhave 8 more hours of this heavy weather--high tide is a little after 5 today--that should at least 5-6 feet above nromal
