Ophelia an ANNULAR hurricane???

I read some old posts about Katrina being an "ANNULAR HURRICANE". What does this mean? Is ophelia an annular hurricane as well, or not?

Annular hurricanes have a large, symmetric eye surrounded by a ring of intense convection, with hardly any convection (i.e. bands) elsewhere. These types of storms are not prone to fluctuations in intensity related to the eyewall replacement cycles typically seen in intense tropical cyclones.

Statistics show that forecasters significantly underestimate the wind velocities following the time when the hurricane peaks. The errors occur because this type of hurricane maintains intensity longer than usual.

Less than 1% of Atlantic cyclones exhibit annular characteristics.

I'm sure someone on here has an image of Katrina when it was annular to share with you. Once you see the image you will never forget what annular means.

Here's Katrina when she was 160mph. I know there's a better one, but when I saw this picture, I immediately shut down the computer and hauled @ss out the door! Is this when she was annular?

Host it on Imageshack.us, upload it, then copy and paste the thumbnail 1 into the post and it will show as a small thumbnail and fullsize in its own page.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I can copy and paste the image using the Img code but when I preview it it is still huge.Ithought you meant I could actually copy and paste the image instead of the code, but that didn't work. Don't think I quite understood the directions you gave, sorry.

Save the image to your desktop, and upload thru Imageshack.us
Click on my pic and copy and paste what I have circled for your image..

Paste that to your post nothing else and you will get a neat small thumbnail.

Thank you sooo much cjrciadt, I was using photobucket instead of image shack. I was trying to post this picture of what I thought showed all the signs of an annular hurricane as explained by senorpepr. Deep convection around the eye and not much anwhere else. Sorry about the icons its the only image I have of her, it is on my desktop. This is right about the time she was upgraded to a cat 5.

annular hurricanes are category 5s-Andrew,Katrina,Isabell,Camille,Luis ect
they look like a buzzsaw from Home Depot that what Katrina looked like when her winds were 175mph
