Something's going on..Who lives in NC
I live in Greenville NC, yesterday was not a bad day at all neither was this morning, but this afternoon the skies are darker and the wind is stronger and steadier, I know that recon reported Ophelia to be weaking, but when you look at the noaa site vapor loop it looks like she has jogged to the south.

emerald isle report
just got my power back--the little village of salter path took a real hard hit--many of the homes and fishing business and restaurants took a surge from Bogue Sound--was told over 30 homes in salter path were heavuly damaged
Even in Emerlad Isle the surge from Bogue Sound was bad--went into one Emerald Isle House today aht gout over 4 feeet of water in the house--
It gets me upset to see CNN and hear them say that NC escaped any damage and then go right back to New Orleans--with another story---some people in eastern nc are really sufferring and many did not have flood insurance--
Never want anyone to say again it was just a cat 1 storm--
it was bad--even now the wind is still blowing 25-35 and the rain is still coming down--hope it is not taking a southern jog--we had over 24 hours of wind and rain

I agree with you totally, I turned my tv today hoping to see coverage of NC but they are still covering Katrina. IMO they will have months to continue coverage of Katrina but at this moment you have an ongoing hurricane affecting NC and that should be a priority right now. My heart goes out to all of you in NC and all areas dealing with Ophelia. I went through something simular last year with Frances stalling on our coast for 24 hours beating the crap out of everything.

We also just got power back on. What a wild 36 hours this has been! We lost power just as conditions were really go down hill. My wife had talked me into putting up our storm shutters, and I was really glad I agreed. The water in my back yard (Bogue Sound) got almost up to our house (which sits up quite a bit), and it seemed everytime I went to see how high the water was getting, I found more big branches down (the ones that I did not hear or feel when they fell on or near the house). We only lost a few trees, and a few tops of trees, but the ones that fell on the house did not go in through the roof, and only ripped off the gutters, no big deal). If I had not put up my storm shelters, I am sure I would be missing one window screen, and probably would have gone through the window. We also had one land on one of our trucks, but, surprisingly only bent the side mirror (and maybe a few minor scrapes or dents, it is an old truck).
Our pier did not do as well as we did. The posts it sits on are still there, but it went under water (or where it was went under water) and it floated away. I went out looking for it today (the wind really pushed out the tide so I walked quite a bit down the sound, didn't find mine or my neighbors). We did save one piece of it. When it broke loose I had a hose attached to the bottem of the shower head, and about 200 yards away that hose hooked onto some debris and held it there until the water went down.
I went through a few little storms up here, but this one was the worst I have been through. I am sure that you are all aware of how slow it was moving, and we were in that Northern eyewall for hours! This was not just a quick "Oh, we had an 85 mph gust" this was hours and hours of "it is still blowing." This morning I got out the generator, visited with our neighbors, cut up the trees around the house, and took down the shutters.
I have heard a lot of "this was only a Cat 1," and I think I would do a Cat 1 again (if is is moving faster then this one), but I think that 2 or above is when I am going to visit someone in Raleigh (or some place it is not going). Just to sit for hours, listening to the wind, trying to do something to distract yourself from what you know (or think) is happening outside is really not much fun. As much as I enjoy tropical weather tracking, this was not a fun storm to sit through.
And I have heard that there is a whole lot of damage over on the island (Atlantic Beach to Emereld Isle). I am sure that I will learn more as the days go on.
