they better not screw up at that countries prestine landscape. It is one of the most beautiful things on this earth..

I've often wondered what each location of Survivor looks like after they've left. Not just what we see on TV but also from what the Survivor tent city/crew areas leave behind. Hopefully they remove any sign they've been there. Something tells me though, they leave stuff behind.

Can't wait! I've heard this is supposed to be possibly the toughest Survivor yet. The cast seems very interesting, though.

And hints of two former Survivor contestants are returning. TV Guide mentioned who they were at the end of last season but now I can't remember their names! It's not clear what role they will play either. Assisting in challenges, helping host this Survivor installment with Jeff? Guess we'll find out soon.

I'm looking forward to it also. I also heard if you have a weak stomach, some of the eating challenges will really get to you. So be forewarned I guess, something tells me not to pre-buy Survivor snacks to munch on while we're watching. I did that last year and we could barely eat after watching Bobby Jon try to push or force those duck type eggs down his throat. Yuck! Especially when he was gagging, we were about to. One of us said, take this food away, NOW!!!! What were they called - baluits? Again, drawing a blank.....

Well... all I will say is it better live up to the promos. I didn't like All-Stars, Vanuatu, or Palau as much as previous seasons.

Related note: Survivor: Africa starts tonight on OLN. 7pm and 10pm ET.

Hopefully this time around the tribes will have a more even # of challenge victories...UNlike the last Survivor series. :wink:

Balut is a fermented duck egg. We used to try to eat them when we had a couple too many drinks in the Philippines. NASTY!!

Survivor: Guatemala decided to kick off its new season (premiering tonight at 8 pm/ET) in an unusual way. CBS got such former cast members as Rupert Boneham, Gervase Peterson, "Boston" Rob Mariano and host-with-the-most Jeff Probst to cluster in Times Square under a reproduced Mayan pyramid. There, they greeted fans and put the onlookers' Survivor trivia knowledge to the test in a tribal council setting. This brave reporter even managed to get into a group and, thanks to having watched the show religiously for 10 seasons, won some prizes (a T-shirt, DVD set and hat). But it wasn't all fun and games — in between answering questions, TVGuide.com managed to glean some info about what to expect in this 11th installment.

CBS has been running promos about a big twist, which is that two popular former Survivor players are coming back. Wouldn't that mean that everyone's favorite good-natured pirate was a shoo-in? "No, they didn't say they were bringing back the most popular player," Rupert laughs. "I don't know if it is going to be me or not, but I sure hope it is."

Alas, it seems doubtful, as rumors of the returnees' identities have been spreading rapidly. But "the tribe has spoken" utterer himself insists that just because audiences may know who they are doesn't spoil everything. "[We're having] two surprise people, yeah," Probst acknowledges with a laugh, "But it hasn't been revealed yet in what capacity they will be involved.

"It is not like [Survivor:] All-Stars," he promises. "We still have 16 new people who have never played. The question is, if you introduce in any capacity somebody who has already played, what will the reaction be? Will it be welcoming? Like, 'Hey, you know the game you know how this works?' Or would they be seen as a threat?

Besides all this much-hyped twist stuff, will Season 11 actually be good? "It is definitely the toughest that we've ever put [our players] through," Probst insists. "Up until now, Africa had probably been the hardest. But Guatemala was very hot, very humid, with a lot of bugs and no water for relief. The only water that they had was a lake that was muddy and filled with crocodiles. The challenges were physically exhausting. But that was the idea; we knew that Guatemala was going to be tough. We decided to just embrace it and go for a very tough challenging season."

Is Probst himself starting to wear down from the Survivor grind? "I'm not exhausted," he admits. "We don't have it like they do. We get breaks and food. The exhausting part is trying to keep it fresh. We have to keep reinventing the show. But the stars of the show are the 16 people we put out there and they did not disappoint this year."

Peru is a long ways from Guatemala, so they probably didn't need to pay them much. Guatemalan National Revolutionary Unit were the marxists in the civil war.

So... tthey survived in Guatamala. I'm sure the 14.6 million people living there are very impressed.

Eric, oh you are too funny.....it's okay to discuss....we watched but Laura will watch it tomorrow.

Spoilers ahead..........

Brent - you were right - Bobby Jon and Stephenie!!!! I really like BJ but when he got cramps and severely dehydrated, I thought he was a goner. Jim reminded me of Williard - too old to compete. But didn't Williard hang in there longer? Anyway, sure seems like BJ's tribe's nurse practioner is running things.

When Steph was saying she hopes to be on a winning team and not to lose at challenges, it sounded like a rerun! Couldn't help myself, she's said that before....many times.

But adding Steph and BJ is a new twist. Not sure if I like it or not. Too early to tell.

Anyone annoying you all yet? The ones dragging things down on Steph's team sure annoyed her. She's not used to weak females.....

I keep getting the two tribes mixed up too.....I'll get a better handle on this next week.

What a neat surprise to see Stephenie and Bobby Jon again! 8-)

Didn't care at all for Brandon's smart butt remark about Bobby Jon though saying in so many words that he was 'dumb'...hey if he's a great tribal worker and challenger by NO means is he 'dumb'! Okay, off my soapbox!

I didn't like it. The "twist" was boring... not shocking at all. This show is starting to lose it's luster... fast.

When Bobby Jon announced at Tribal Council he gets to go for the milliion bucks twice, a fellow female castmate rolled her eyes. I'm sure you caught that Brent. I agree, this new twist isn't all that interesting. While I wanted to see BJ and Steph again, it would have been better if they had played with other former contestants. Not new ones. If I were new, I'd resent their help at times. Starting out, it might be helpful to have them around. BJ is a hard worker, Steph is a fierce competitor. No doubt about it, they were both known for each. As far as BJ being on the dumb side, I don't think he was, he was more quiet and hard working, than dumb. Maybe that guy needs to watch Palau again....it might have been James he was thinking of....remember him, running around in his underwear all the time?

At least this time they have clothes on!

And I'm gonna say one final thing, for sunny's sake too - we uh, older female fans, need someone like Tom again.....to feast our eyes upon. The former football dude, just didn't do it for me though...he he. I miss Tom! Speaking of Gary, wonder how long his secret will last....."landscaping experience" - yeah with Astroturf!!!!

I kept thinking how grueling it was for both to start their 39 days on an 11 mile trek. But then I thought, well there is a camera crew, some production people, and probably a real doc along in case of a more extreme emergency....so not quite like they are REALLY out of contact.

Still, I enjoy Survivor and it is one of the very few reality shows I keep tabs of. The interplay in the beginning is a lot about figuring out who the characters are...so it is confusing for the first few weeks. Eventually, we will pick the rising stars.

I predict that both rollovers from last year will be gone before halfway through.

That's my problem. I wasn't surprised it was Steph and Bobby Jon, but I WAS surprised at their role. I thought maybe they'd compete against the two tribes at challenges, but maybe live with them the rest of time. They had their chance, they lost, why are they here?
