Hurricane Katrina Pics

These past two weeks following Hurricane Katrina, I've been in the New Orleans area and along the Mississippi Gulf Coast restoring communication. Here's a link to a few of the many pictures I have taken while driving around. No matter how many pictures and footage I see, when I see the next I still can not believe what I see, the total devastaion of the beast we call Katrina. Mother nature does what she wants, when she wants with no regrets or regard.

Here's one HurryKane took the other day in Bay St. Louis.. Burger King is now offering "sail thru" service..

Ironically, we two of the VHS tapes we found were Gone with the Wind and The Hurricane..

Eden Isles is on the Northshore of Lake Ponchartrain. It was in the western eyewall.

We have family and friends along the MS Gulf Coast and have been over there numerous times....each time it just takes your breath away! It is just literally sickening.

It is sickening. I have to keep pulling over because it gets so emotional. There is absolutely nothing left to what was a beautiful gulf coast.

Eden Isles is on the Northshore of Lake Ponchartrain. It was in the western eyewall.

I would've never thought it was in the left side of the storm. All in all I'm noticing that perhaps Katrina's western eyewall (instead of the eastern eyewall) had the strongest winds, and perhaps the NHC was focusing on the eastern eyewall, thus the underestimate of the winds at landfall.

Heck, how could places like Slidell and Eden Isle get such catastrophic damage without storm surge (I don't think there was storm surge on the back side of the storm)? By at least Cat 4 winds. And remember that 176 mph gust measured at NWS Slidell (though I believe that was either false or it was measured on the roof of the building).

EDIT: Never mind, I guess it was surge damage. But how could there be surge if the winds were blowing in a southerly direction and offshore?

Hi folks,
This is my first post since the day before Katrina hit. Don't want to bore anyone, but the pictures show a horrible scene and thats exactly what we had around here. Katrina was the most spectacular demonstration of the power of mother nature that I have ever witnessed, either in person or through the media. I rode her out with my family here at my home in Washington Parish, LA. If you look at the map above it shows Bogalusa, I am just west of there. It was terrible, don't know for certain about the winds but they were nothing less than 120 mph in our area. I hope to look at a few stats later today. We had a complete loss of our timber industry, probably about 70-80 percent just gone. Thousands and I'm not exaggerating, thousands of trees on our roadways. It looked like an atomic bomb had gone off. Buildings destroyed and hundreds of homes with trees through their roofs. Just got power back 2 days ago. We were blessed, and we pray for those who lost their lives and those who lost their homes. Good luck to you all. If anyone knows of any stats on Katrina as she came through my area, please Private message me. Also, I would like a good satelite animation of the landfall. Sorry to bore anyone, but just had to post. First real communication we have had in close to 3 weeks now. Thanks again to all of you for your prayers.'

Pictures honestly don't do it justice. I sent many to my family before they came to help me clean up the yard and repair the home this weekend, and they were still shocked, with my mother walking into my home for the first time since the storm, in complete breakdown mode.
