I am glad they are getting out in front of this...this could be another Bahama Boomer...but with a better synoptic environment to work with than Katrina had east of Florida.
Goint to be a close call...I think the Fl straights is the best place to look right now and then a merciful westward track into the Gulf...hopefully the same high that has been keeping new orleans dry does the job here as well...but that is a long way out right now.
There isn't much deep convection yet but the cloud pattern is impressive...and I am concerned about that upper low running out in front...it could really help get this system going in a hurry.
Residents of the Bahamas...Cuba...and Southern Florida should dust off the old hurricane plans and get what they need in the next day or 2...tonight even would be a good idea. After all that has happened recently...the stores will be a madhouse after the media gets hold of this.

I agree with ya....we're planning on filling up the cars tomorrow. We still have water left, but will probably pick up some ice tomorrow since we should be able to find it. Food wise, we're pretty ok, but will probably stock up on the basics, just in case, tomorrow as well. Once this gets out, Publix will be a zoo!

Mike, I always respect what you have to say.
That being said, "Bahama Boomer" -- no kidding. The Bahamas (unfortunately) have been a hotbed for tropical activity this season...they've now become notorious as the "Birthplace of Katrina". I agree with you that soon-to-be Rita could actually boom while IN the Bahamas instead of after when you-know-who did.
Needless to say, the soon-to-be Rita now has my attention.

Is the windspeed at 950 Hpa considered to reach the ground?
Kinda concerned now, a half-degree bump north and I'm in a terrible flood situation.
GFDL has been bullish with intensity...then again, it nailed Katrina. I'll keep my eyes peeled for this one, even while we're recovering.

Looks like they got this one pegged for Northern Mexico based on the 5 day track below.

TX is as much of a threat now as Mexico, IMO.
