will do anything to get the Santorum Bill passed.
Radio NHCWX will do everything we can to expose this fraud of a company. Again they prey on what they perceive as failure and the misery of others.

You must be living under a rock
Its a bill that would try to limit the capabilities of the NWS and give more power to private companies like Accuweather.
In other words, Accuweather is trying to, IMO, dismantle the NWS, and gain enough power to be the new official source for weather information for America. Sickening really...
Of course thats just the basic and my opinion of it, there is much more reading out there which can be provided by others. I know of some links but just can't find them right now. Someone else will post them, I'm sure.

This is an AP story so it is getting a lot of ink and eyeballs. I've seen it on several sites. It actually swings WAY in favor of the NHC and really makes AccuWeather looks like a typical corporate outfit looking to get a little attention.
BTW, they didn't call the Mayor of New Orleans, or the Governor of Louisiana 3 days prior, unless I'm mistaken.
Max Mayfield, et al are heros that truly save countless lives each year.

Mayfield called on Saturday morning as did President Bush unless the media reports that were issued were incorrect.

All I have to say about this is that the NHC and NWS are top notch at what they do !
They issued the proper warnings and did nothing short of an excellent job forecasting Hurricane Katrina, even accurately predicting it to reach Hurricane strength prior to reaching the Florida east coast. It is up to the Cities, States and the Federal Government to take those warnings seriously and take immediate action as soon as the warnings are given.
To Accu-weather, I say, give it a rest already!!! They are making their organization look very foolish.

Not to stir the pot too much, here's a little note I got from Senator David Vitter. (My Senator, for whom I voted) It sounds to me that he is in the sack with Accuweather also or is he confused? The wording is really fishy. They also sent me an attachment of the bill. Any thoughts? Please write to him also with your concerns. We need to sway as many of these guys as possible.
Email from David Vitter:
Dear Mr. Rawls,
Thank you for contacting me about the National Weather Service Duties Act of 2005. I appreciate hearing from you on this important matter.
The National Weather Service Duties Act of 2005 (S.786) seeks to strengthen the core mission of the National Weather Service (NWS) by empowering all taxpayers with real-time weather information. Furthermore, this legislation seeks to advance the NWS's ability to issue severe weather warnings, collect and exchange data, and forecasts necessary for aircraft safety and efficiency. Moreover, S.786 prohibits private entities from using the NWS's taxpayer-funded research for profit.
We in Louisiana rely heavily on accurate, timely weather forecasts, especially when hurricanes are heading our way. We need to increase public safety by offering real-time weather forecasts to the public. We need to make sure we do not withhold weather information from pilots and mariners, and we need to make sure that the public has access to the same weather information as the media. Please rest assured I will work to ensure these goals are met as the Senate considers this legislation.
Once again, thank you for contacting me to share your thoughts on this issue. Please do not hesitate to contact me in the future about other issues important to you.
Sincerely,
Senator David Vitter
United States Senator

I don't want to get too political, but the response you got was very different than the one I got from my Senator, Bill Nelson, when I contacted him about this topic several weeks ago.
It is always hard to tell with politicians , but it appears they are on opposite sides of the fence on this issue.
I will refrain from other comments out of respect for the 'no politics' policy.

If youw ant to know where they stand just call their office, there staff will gladly tell you where the boss stands on an issue. Accuweather can try all they want but this will never get much traction.
