Three Storm2k members in Key Largo. O.M.G. we are in trouble.
Heather, I'm at mm 99.5 o/s.
Monroe County has ordered a mandatory visitor evacutation starting with the Lower Keys (Key West to 7 mile bridge).
Traffic in Key Largo is heavy but no major backups yet. Thousands of motorcycles heading north now.
Since county plan calls for phased evac, this could be extended to upper keys later, or maybe not based on the track.
Sailing club marina being evacuated.

My wife just got called. No court in Key West till Wed. I run an afterschool program here on Big Pine so with no school I get some more time off. No panic buying but gas stations and stores are busy.
This storm season is getting to be a drag though. First Dennis, then Kat, now Rita. Oh well, life really is a breeze in the Fl. Keys

I think there's a lot of overreacting going on. Understandable, but...
I'm being beat about the head in another thread for saying this storm is being hyped too much. I guess I just think overhyping is just as dangerous as underinforming because it has the same ultimate end result.

Please -- anyone who wants to discuss overhyping / media / metacriticism of human behavior -- start a thread. This one is about preparations in South Florida. Or I'll beat you about the head!

Fine, Recurve. Commence discussion of your preparations for a 17 kt storm.
or maybe we should wait until it's a hurricane before we prepare? It's a nice attitude you have today.

I pray that what I'm preparing for is a 17-knot TD when it gets here.
Go to the recon page. 17knots was in the SE quad not the NW Quad for clarificaiton.

I know, I've been there, and I'm sorry if I appear insensitive to those closer to the storm, I'm really not. I know how scary it can be but also how easy it can be to do a head trip on yourself about these storms.wzrgirl1 wrote:I think we are all just a little stressed from this season....they are fun to look at and track until you have one barreling down your throat....too close for comfort right now
Good luck, Recurve, I hope you come through this with only a few rainshowers and gusts!

Just got back from the Keys last night. Was surprised that there was not as many people. The boat ramp I go to was empty, it's usually packed. The water was unusually warm several feet down, it was great to jetskii in. On the way home I was thinking about taking pictures of the area incase a major cane came through and destroyed it.
Today, just retureed home an hour ago getting a few things, not too worried about this for now, but the Wal-Mart and Sam's club was packed!. Will probably fill other car up with gas before the news comes on and scares everyone.
