So what if...

This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

So what if...

...a TS is downgraded to a TD in the post storm analysis?

(posted in the Tropical Analysis forum)

It would be interesting if it happened today, would they do it differently today and just called it "TD Lee"?

And some more food for thought: what if a TD was upgraded only for the next advisory recon finding it as an open wave and never was a TD, and it never regenerated? How would they remove it from the recordbooks?

For a short time he did have enough organizion to be a tropical storm...In he had a 2.5/2.5 t...Like Gert or Bret or Jose it doe's not matter how long it lasts.

So not going to happen.

In I think a system that hit the outterbanks. In June should take its place if so.

That reminds me...another couple of what ifs... :D

A storm is upgraded from wave to TD, or better yet, a TD to TS. I know they won't change names, but could they use the Greek alphabet for post-upgraded TS's?

A) For systems that were initially labelled a TS, but later was ruled it never was of TS strength... the name would remain with a new status. For example, say Lee is downgraded (I doubt it)... it would be called TD Lee.

B) For the vice versa, they would simply leave it as an unnamed storm. For example, say TD 18 was left as a TD initally, but was found to be a TS later... it will be called TS (or Hurricane) 18.
