Per Joe Bastardi at Accuweather: NO could be hit by Rita
I just watched FNC's interview with Joe Bastardi from Accuweather. He said that it is quite possible that New Orleans could be hit by Hurricane Rita.
He is projecting this storm to be a Cat 3 or 4 by mid week. He said also his current forecast puts this storm into TX and also possibly into the Beaumont/Houston area where the refineries are (his words, not mine).

No he's not. He said Dennis would New Orleans too.
Actually, I listened to him as well, and he DID seem more concerned about Texas and Mexico much moreso than NOLA.

I know. Even a blind dog bumps into a pheasant once in a while.
That said, I'm not downplaying the NOLA threat. Models this far out are very innacurate. Everyone in the Gulf should be paying attention to this one.

I don't know about New Orleans...but I fear that this could be Key West's Katrina.
It's been a long, long time since they've been hit by anything beyond a marginal Cat. 2 down there. My family has interests there, so I have double reason to worry. It's too early to panic, sure - but I think the potential definitely exists for this to be a very bad storm for someone, whether it's the Keys, Miami, Texas, or elsewhere on the Gulf Coast.
