The use of official maps such as those produced by NOAA or similar agencies by individual members for use in posting forecasts is not allowed at STORM2K even with a disclaimer attached. Any one who continues this practice will be subject to suspension of posting privileges. If you have any questions concerning this feel free to contact a staff member. A previous announcement was made concerning this and apparently some have forgotten about it so it is now being reposted. Thank you for your cooperation.

Soooo... people can't post strikemaps generated by NOAA? Or are you talking about "official-looking" fake maps? Just curious on the rationale about not hotlinking to NOAA products. What about sat shots? Those are NOAA products too. Radar? I guess I'm confused. NOAA doesn't care if people disseminate their products, and even if they did, it doesn't violate any copyright law.

Windy, he means taking official maps and adding your own forecast to them, because they look... well.. official ;-)

Just trying to avoid confusing people who may think it still is an official product.

Aahhh. Okay. So it's still cool to post the official strikemaps, just don't add personal commentary/forecasts to it.

We are specifically talking about maps produced by NOAA or similar agencies that are being used by others with their own forecast tracks superimposed over the official one. There are copyright issues involved as well as liablility issues if someone not familiar with these maps took one of them as official, even with a disclaimer with it. There is not a problem with linking to these products as long as they are not altered.
