Graph updated with the addition of Stan. After almost two weeks with no activity (and falling behind 1933 for one day), the two years are now even.

I had to make the graph a bit narrower since it appears the board is resizing images now. Does anyone know more about this? It looks like the limit for width before the board shrinks it down (which makes them look terrible, BTW) is between 500 and 550 pixels. I tried searching the posts here for more information but couldn't find any.

Bump... we now have Tammy.

In 1933, the 19th storm didn't form until October 25th. The 20th storm formed the next day.

All this record stuff does not mean much to me. Earth has been around for along time. The records of Atl. tropical activity have not. So no one knows the real record.

Looks like I updated my graph before WeatherStreet.com did.

But the records we know about we can use.Just like any experiment or project more data tends to lend to better analysis.

Look how this season is WAY ahead of normal. If this keeps going up through first half of August, there will be NO doubt in my mind, that this one will be a record-breaking season (named storms, hurricanes, major hurricanes).

FWIW, as bad as 2004 was, 2005 will probably not compare...

Actually, 1950 has the record for major hurricanes (eight), 2005 only ties the record for all hurricanes (12).
