EVERYONE along the Texas and Louisiana coasts should be paying very careful attention to Rita. The new forecast path is very concering for the Houston/Galveston area but also the new models that take Rita into SW LA. I will be on the dirty side of the system so I'll be preparing for at least tropical storm conditions by weeks end  .

I can't believe we have to go through all this again, stay strong everyone :( .

folks....please try to relax...i know its HARD...try not to buy into every model run...we have to see how things play out. she has been moving a little faster today than anticipated....remember this...faster would prolly mean a further south track...and slower would mean a farther east track....just mo

Galveston is suppose to have a new conference at 1 or 1:30 and it is expected that they will call for voluntary evacuations at that time.

Delta Dog, I don't think telling people to relax is productive. I think we are just trying to make sure we are prepared. It's heading this way whether we like it or not whether we get a hit or not remains to be seen, but I for one and not waiting for the last minute to get prepared.

I think that's all this thread is about.

Hi, I'm just down the road from you in League City (Brittany Lakes). I also work near Roxy on Bay Area ( across from the High School). I lived near the Beltway8/ Beamer when Alicia came through in 83' and that was an eye opener. We'll be keeping a close eye on this one and will be checking in w/the OEM for any info they have as well.

Hey Neighbor!

Good luck to you! I will be reviewing my plans with my wife tonight. Luckily I have a stock of water and nonperishable food items along with flashlights, batteries, etc. I put together a kit at the beginning of every season just to be safe.

Do you know what the most important item is? The manual can opener, of course! I work at Rice University and also at San Jacinto College, so I have to deal with two different work preparations as well. Anyway, I'll be watching this one carefully.

Thanks Brady, fortunately I have a good supply too. We will be talking about plans as well tonight. I know what you mean about double preparations. We have a pretty extensive preparation schedule at work. I work for the City of Houston and will not be able to leave if my family does. I have to make sure they are taken care of in plenty of time, so I at least know they are safe while I am at work.

Hey Canebo. I am right down the street near Magnolia Creeks. I will place more storm panels up after work and work on pulling together everything to head up to Dallas.

Tomorrow things will start to get crazy around with the media hype.

Hey KatDaddy. You are just a stone's throw away. I know you are very glad you bought those storm panels now. I still have not upgraded from the plywood I cut a few years back. I imagine if I have to put it all up in this beautiful heat and humidity those storm panels will be calling my name before next season!

You are so right about the media. Any guesses what the big story will be on ch. 2 news today?

I won't be able to due to job requirements, but my family will. We have relatives scattered from Katy to San Antonio to Longview. Rita's strength will determine where they go.

I am also anxiously awaiting Dr. Neil's thoughts. What a valuable asset to have here during times like this.

KatDaddy, when do you plan on heading to Dallas? That is where we will go but we don't want to wait until too late and be with the masses.

Katdaddy, is your area at risk for storm surge/flooding? Just wondering because you seem very ready to evacuate. I wouldn't evacuate unless I was at risk of flooding, which I am not. Hotels are extremely hard to come by in these parts so only those who really need to evacuate should IMO. Let those in immediate danger/coastal areas have the hotel rooms.

Not trying to speak for KD, but League City is definitely in the at-risk area for storm surge and flooding.
