This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

Question about dynamical model definition

#1 Postby Portastorm » Mon Sep 19, 2005 4:12 pm

Knabb refers to dynamical models in his 5 p.m. discussion. What are the dynamical models?

Dynamical Models are models that are dynamically modeling the atmosphere based on input of current conditions.

Statistical Models are ones using some sort of database of past storms in a given location.

For all practical purposes, all the models that anyone should care about are the dynamical ones.

Statistical models are the older ones like A98E (which is a hybrid of dynamical and statistical), and stuff like CLIPER.

Dynamical models are far and away superior to statistical models.

Uh-oh, Knabb said the dynamical models have shifted slightly left again and if they are the more reliable than the other ones ... eh, nevermind, I will put those thoughts of catastrophic Hill Country floods out of my head for now.
