Rita is about to take off in intensity, CDO has formed and system is about to become vertically stacked. Look out keys

TWC tropical update showed an incredible flare-up around the center. I think it will truly be a monster now.

Looks like the center has jumped southwest under the deeper convection that was already there earlier. I agree, pressure is going to drop significantly tonight.

for katrina when I went to bed it was a cat 2 and when I woke up it was almost a cat5

still only seeing a slowly developing cyclone, as indicated by recon

the bands are having trouble wrapping around the northern and eastern sides

I've been in the FL Keys during a tropical storm and it is naturally windy there. They stick out into the ocean and there is nothing to break the wind....it's different than a storm impacting a landmass.
