This is the general tropical discussion area. Anyone can take their shot at predicting a storms path.

How many Houstonians here are evacuating? I live in Texas City, and I plan to take my pets and stay with a friend on the west side of Houston, outside the beltway. I have never known anyone in Houston who evacuated; only my friends closer to the coast. Do y'all think that going to West Houston, over 50 miles from the coast, is enough? I keep seeing posts here and elsewhere about Houstonians evacuating, so I am starting to rethink my plans.

I'm not exactly evacuating - I will probably go IN to town, rather than out. I am not one for handling hurricanes on my own. I don't even like sitting through bad thunderstorms by myself. So, I will pack up my kitties and head into town to spend the night at my parents, or head out to Katy to spend the night with my sister.

Of course this all depends on the landfall and intensity of Rita. We're no heroes - we'll get out of town if need be. But probably only as far as my sister's house in Katy.

I was up until 3 this morning trying to find a room at a pet-friendly hotel (a lot of hotels are pet friendly - I never knew!) and it is slim pickins'. I finally found a room in ABILENE!! Really don't want to go that far, but it's all there was. I don't know what people are going to do.
