I am with you. This thing will get strong - at or very near CAT 5.

Peak intensity of 160 mph. Landfall at 135 to 140 mph. Tis the season.

66% of the storm2k members think CAT 4 or higher. I agree. Conditions are too similiar to Katrina. How many Katrina comparisions are we in for in the coming days by the media?

Agreed. She seems to have just about everything going in her favor--extremely warm SSTs, upper level anticyclone supposed to sit in above her, low shear. About the only thing she doesn't have going for her is a little bit of dry air. But, quite frankly, I think she has enough else going for her that the relatively small amount of dry air she'll be dealing with can be worked out. Truth be told, I think she has even more going for her than Katrina did. Only interaction with land is going to slow her down, which is why I believe she'll be 135 to 140 at landfall. But if she's moving along at a good clip--say, 12 to 15 mph--she could very well make landfall higher than that.

strong cat 4/cat 5 like I predicted with Katrina. Theres no telling how big a monster she could get,but realistically I don't see a 175mph plus cane with Rita

Even if it doesn't get as strong as a strong 4/Cat 5, it's supposed to hit at high tide. So storm surge damage is going to be impressive and not in the good way.

Boy I look stupid more like 160 for her peak in the GOM, not landfall.
