Fox news just reported

#1 Postby jes » Tue Sep 20, 2005 4:36 pm

Fox news just said that Rita is supposed to strengthen to a Cat 4 by noon tomorrow. Some national weather man also said there is just a 5% chance that Rita will hit NO or East of NO. Some of us have been wondering what the chances are that Rita's path could move East.

Cat 4 i can believe.......possible hit on NO seems a little far fetched (just my opinion).

That would be horrible if it hit to the west of New Orleans as it might break the levees again and let all of the toxic water back into the city.

5 percent is pretty much the definition of far fetched isn't it?

Now the funny thing is that the official forecast never strengthens it to a cat 4, even though it probably will later. 115kts is not a cat 4.

115kts is the minimum threshold for CAT 4 I believe. It equates to 132mph, and the boundary for a CAT 4 is 131mph.

115KTS. Multiply 1.15 x 115 to get 132.

Right Now SE Louisiana is not in the cone. The reliable model guidance has remained tightly clustered along the Texas Coast throughout the day. Obviously things can change and everyone should keep their guard up, but the focus is on Texas right now.

It could be less than 3-1/2 days to landfall, and less than 2 days to start evacuations from some areas, due to surge ahead of the storm cutting off low-lying areas.

48 hours isn't exactly luxury time.

I have been watching Fox since I got home from work this evening (again) and find it odd they seem very reluctant to mention Cat 5? Why is that?

Rita has a whole lot of GOM water to move over and nothing really to stop her reaching that status.

All I can say is God Bless Texas...I have lots of family in Houston. I am in Baton Rouge and I feel pretty confident from the model consensus that I am ok here. I just pray for you guys in Texas... :(
